"Every gent needs a versatile navy-blue suit. Here are the best picks for the sub-£600 RTW."
The navy-blue suit goes without saying as essential and therefore is taking its place as the Monday Suit in my permanent collection (check out mine here). When in the process of buying mine, here were some of the options up to the budget of £600, in price ascending order.
Signature Italian Wool Blue Suit £179 from NEXT Available in Regular/Tailored/Slim fit

I have spent a lot of time with this suit since working at NEXT and I respect this suit on many levels, here are some reasons. • A nice high-sitting notched lapels with a good width. • Trousers feature details around the ankle and waistband of the trouser to both sit right on the legs and keep the shirt tucked in. • I like the design of the waistcoat which sits nicely on the trouser. • Offers Incredible value for money for a 100% wool suit.
DOWNS
• Slim fit and from NEXT that means loose trousers, for me at least (check my body type here) • If you buy this suit I would budget £50 for alterations since with my experience with NEXT suits, the sleeves always need altering, the trousers are too baggy and the break is too much in my opinion.
Overall Rating Good 6 out of 10.
Blue Plain Napoli Suit £279 from Suitsupply Regular fit

The 'Napoli' by Suitsupply is essentially a regular fit suit but with a modern Italian design. There are so much colour and fabric choice for this so if this fit works for you, you have won. • The details are on point, I mean just look at it! • The perfect width for a classic long-lasting notched lapel. • Suitsupply do instore alterations following the purchase so you can achieve the perfect fit. But again, maybe budget £20 for the trousers and any some extra for the coat if need be. Suitsupply's prices for alterations can be found here.
DOWNS
• Little darker than what I would like but the shine differentiates itself from other darker plain navy fabrics • Napoli fit is a loose fit suit so lots of alterations would be required (for me at least)
Overall Rating Solid 7 out of 10
Blue Plain Lazio Suit £379 from Suitsupply Slim fit

*Images courtesy of Suitsupply If you want to buy this suit, here is the link: http://eu.suitsupply.com/en_GB/suits/lazio-blue-plain/P5169.html?cgid=Suits&prefn1=colorID&prefv1=Blue&prefn2=fit&prefv2=Lazio

The 'Lazio' is incredible piece of suit design. The difference between this and the 'Napoli' is that the 'Lazio' is a slim fit with a wider lapel and this suits me down the bone. They have some great videos describing the fits on their website, for the 'Lazio', follow the link for the suit above or here then scroll down to where it shows the suits details and click the play fit video button.
DOWNS
• Fabric is not perfect on this suit in my opinion, but the colour is and since fit is of most importance when buying a suit, it is worth it for the fit. • Trousers are a little plain from Suitsupply for my taste, I'd have liked a single pleat or other minor details. • You have to buy the three piece adding to the overall cost
Overall Rating Another good 7 out of 10
'Reyno4/Wave2' Suit £550 from Hugo Boss Extra-slim fit

Honestly, up until recently when me and my partner was in Hugo Boss in Birmingham, I did not really have much of an opinion on Hugo Boss suits. If you can gather from my inspiration, it is almost the opposite of what I like at times. What Hugo Boss does do though is excellent fabrics and very distinct strong modern silhouette with the important minor details where needed, included.
• Extremely classic lapels, I mean the one I bought (can be seen here) I was drooling over. • Got mine in sale in a classic blue, similar to that of the NEXT's colour, for only £379 so there is great opportunity for a bargain.
DOWNS
• You can not get the lighter tone of mine anymore so although this suit is lovely, I would like something more blue. • Even the extra-slim fit from Hugo Boss has trousers too baggy for me but even so I would still have them altered regardless. • Allow £50 for an arrange of alterations that will be needed to be done • Does have a shorter jacket than Suitsupply so take this into consideration although this could be because its an extra-slim suit. I know at NEXT we shorten the jacket 1cm for every increasingly tighter fit so that may well apply here too.
Overall Rating You get what you pay for - 8 out of 10
'Huge6/Genius4' Suit £530 from Hugo Boss Slim fit

Much prefer this to the previous Hugo Boss suit, however for me their slim fit is too baggy in coat meaning yet further alterations were required for me with their slim fit but go and try their different fits and if it is good for you then I think you have a winner with this one.
• Perfect navy/blue colour range in my opinion
DOWNS
• Allow £50-70 for alterations if you are like me (check here)
